More and more people are using their open fire and stoves in their homes to supplement heating costs. Indeed a fire in the home is welcoming and creates a warm, cosy atmosphere. But a fire comes with its own dangers and poses a threat to family health and wellbeing. With all fires, creosote and tar builds up in the chimney flue. Should this ignite it will cause a chimney fire with the risk of the chimney breast cracking and heat/sparks/flames getting into the attic space or between floors. A blocked flue can also result in the build up of Carbon Monoxide (CO) in the home which is poisonous and a threat to family members. All fire fuels, solid, gas, and oil, must be vented conventionally to the outside of the building and must have their chimneys swept by an established chimney sweep.
